You are always allowed to accompany your child for their first visit. Our goal is that it will be easy and informative for you and your child. Dr. Lee will provide a thorough exam and talk to you about how to prevent dental disease, the care of your child’s teeth, and give you nutritional recommendations. She will complete a cavities risk assessment for your child and will address any issues of concern. So do bring all your questions!
For treatment visits, we encourage you allow our staff to accompany your child. This will give us a chance to build rapport and trust with your child and allow your child the opportunity to gain confidence at the dental office. However, you are always welcome to accompany your child for any and all visits.
Our highly trained staff knows how to keep children happy. We pride ourselves in being extremely gentle, friendly and positive with all our children. We go slow, and apply the SHOW, TELL, DO METHOD. This makes even a shy child feel nurtured and comfortable.
Many parents want to know the best way to prepare their child for their first visit. Here’s a case where saying less is actually more. Tell them they are going to have their teeth counted and it will be fun and easy.
Approach your first visit in a casual manner and it will be enjoyable and positive. We encourage parents to refrain from using frightening words like pull, hurt, drill or shots. Dr. Lee and our staff stay consistent with a soft tone throughout the appointment and add fun, kid-friendly images like, Mr. Thirsty (the saliva ejector), Mr. ToothTickler (the polisher) and Mr. Whistler (the drill). Please do not share your anxiety about the visit with your child. An anxious parent can contribute to a child’s own anxiety.
